Abstract:

" The seminar aims to show the usefulness of the study design based on the consideration of twins ('twin study design') for research in the neuroscience sector. A brief introduction is dedicated to the 'national twin registers' as valuable infrastructures for biomedical research, with a particular focus on the Italian National Twin Registry (managed by the speaker structure) and its main lines of research. Subsequently, the key elements of the 'twin method' are introduced with its assumptions, potentials and limits. Then, various applications of the method in neuroscience are described, drawing inspiration from international scientific literature and, when possible, also from the experience gained by the speaker in this area."
